CONFERENCE ON CONFLICT MANAGEMENT AND NEGOTIATION
A Conference on Conflict Management and Negotiation was organized by the Department of Human Resource Management, GITAM Institute of Management, on 29th July, 2015. The function was presided over by Prof. G. Subrahmanyam, Vice-Chancellor, GITAM University. Prof. P. Sheela, Vice-Principal, GITAM Institute of Management, welcomed the gathering.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Patrick McNamara, Director, International Studies Program, University of Nebraska, Omaha, USA. GITAM Institute of Management has a very successful collaboration with University of Nebraska. Dr. McNamara spoke at length about the crucial area of conflict management and conflict resolution. He reiterated that while conflict was inevitable, ways and means had to be found to resolve it. Calling himself a peace-maker, he pointed out the various levels and strategies of conflict resolution. He spoke of having taken inspiration from the non-violent methods of Gandhiji and Martin Luther King.
Prof. K. Madhu (Retd), former Head, Department of Psychology, Andhra University also spoke at the forum with regard to the categories of conflict and means to resolve conflicts at individual, professional, national and international levels. Prof. C. Apparao (emeritus professor), GITAM Institute of Management and Prof. G. Raghaviah, HoD, Department of HRM, GITAM Institute of Management, also spoke on the occasion.
