are increasing in India by the minute with wonderful ideas in all possible

Frenchbob is a start-up initiated by our BBM 2010
batch alumnus Monish Yerramsetti after completing his post-graduation in
Australia. Frenchbob is a one stop website which caters to gifting Solutions.
Categories include Funk, Decor, Personalised Gifts, Experiences, Combos, Cakes,
Chocolates, Flowers, Soft toys etc.
He
anticipated that there is huge potential in this segment and few players who
cater to these needs. He is confident that he would be able to capture 30
percent market share across India in the near future.Website

2. VIZAG
RETAIL
Vizag
Retail is Start-up that aims to cater to
grocery needs of Vizag’s households and it was initiated by our BBM 2013
batch alumnus J.K. Pratap Varma. Vizag
Retail is Vizag’s first online grocery delivery portal and it has been started to meet the growing
needs of Vizagites in the grocery online sales segment. Though there are many
big players in this area he is confident that he would be able to survive and
take his business forward and achieve the targeted goals.

VIZAG HOUSING
Vizaghousing
is a Start-up initiated by Tangala Venkateswarlu of BBM 1993 batch. It focuses
on real estate online sales based in Visakhapatnam and caters to housing needs
of Visakhapatnam. Services rendered by this portal enable any individual to get
himself registered freely and post his requirements if he wants to buy, sell or
rent a property which is located in Visakhapatnam. It also has a space for PG
hostels and shopping lists related to housing like Shops selling Furniture,
Furnishings etc. Recently there was an article published about Vizaghousing in
Yourstory Media. The start-up is in the initial stage and has received
proposals from NRIs that they would be investing in it to the tune of Rs.50 to
Rs.60 lakhs as initial funding to take it forward.

MANAGING_STRESS_AT-EXAM-TIME_by_Dr.N.Deepa_Mohan
As the exams are approaching, most of us
experience anxiety regarding our exam performance. We wonder whether we will be
able to do well, fear failure and worry endlessly about the examination papers.
Many students are not able to sleep properly, eat more or eat very little, get
tired frequently , develop some digestive problems and get headaches frequently. These are the signs and symptoms of stress
which one experiences when one feels pressure of some kind.
However, unnecessary stress or worrying
does not help us do well in the examination. A certain amount of stress/anxiety
is required to motivate us to study and prepare well for the examination. This optimal level of stress is called Eustress which maximizes our
performance. At the same time, too much
stress or no stress worsens our performance as we are either too relaxed or too
worked up to prepare well and perform well. The relationship between stress and
performance can be explained in this inverted U curve
Some Simple Ways to Handle Exam Stress -
Learn to recognize
when you are feeling stressed and find simple ways to relax.
Do
not attempt to study continuously for hours
together. You may not be able to concentrate for so long.
Take
a ten minute break every forty five
minutes or one hour. Rejuvenate yourself by having a cold drink (not aerated drinks), get some
fresh air, or close your eyes for a little while to refocus.
If you are not able to
concentrate or follow by reading quietly, try reading loudly. This engages your
concentration and the brain gets multiple inputs so as to improve learning.
(This has been scientifically proved)
Eat
Nutritious Food.
Restrict the amount of caffeine in your diet.
Avoid
junk foods
Hydrate
yourself regularly
Drink enough water.
Smoking, drinking or taking drugs does not reduce stress, but only increases it.
Organize
yourself and organize your study materials so as
to get a clear perspective.
Talk
to a friend or family member or write your stress
away; it gives clarity.
Change
irrational thinking into rational thinking.
Have
a positive attitude.
Do
some sort of physical activity for a minimum of 20
minutes.
Deep
breathing, relaxation, meditation and yogic exercises help.
Get
enough sleep: At
least 5-6 hours. Lack of rest aggravates stress. It will also help you to
remember much better whatever you have learnt!
Never
skip breakfast on the day of examination, it lowers your glucose levels and you may not
be able to recall the answers during examination.
Finally, do not think that if you
did not do well in your exam, it is all over. You can prepare well the next
time and excel !!
Most
importantly:
If stress is putting you in an unmanageable state or interfering with your
studies and social/personal life, seek
professional help at your college counseling center.

Tata_Crucible_Quiz
The Tata
CrucibleBusiness Quiz seeks to
bring together the sharpest young corporate minds in India to take on the
toughest business quiz in India. Youth is a key audience which the Tata Group
is focusing its communication at and Tata Crucible is one of the key
initiatives towards this engagement.
For the first ten years, the Tata Crucible Quiz was held in 3
parts. Two back to back tracks - separately for Tata corporate and Non-Tata
corporate, followed by National Finals. The third track is held for Campus
students each year also followed by a National Final. Ten editions of Crucible
corporate version and ten editions of the Crucible Campus version have been
held so far to enthusiastic response.
The quiz
was conducted on 22nd February 2016 in the GITAM University. Nearly
400 under graduates and post graduates from GITAM University and other b-school
students in and around Visakhapatnam came to participate in the quiz
Students
from GITAM Institute Of Management also participated in this competition. We
are proud to say that our GIM students Alekhya M. and Sonalika Gupta of MBA 1st yr qualified for the 2nd round i.e.
Knock Out Round.
The guest
of honor, Mr. Kiran Bussan ,GM Taj Gateway, Vizag appreciated the winners of the quiz Ankur Bhattacharya and Ayappa from GITAM Institute of Technology
who won the prize money of 75000 Rs and the Runners Up Sainath and Sachin from Indian
Maritime University who won 35000 Rs.
DIET_FOR_HEALTHY_LIVING
A
sensitizing lecture on “Diet for healthy living” was organized by the team of
Abhaya- a wing of the Women Empowerment Cell of GITAM University. This session
was organized in GITAM Institute of Management on 17th February,
2016. The chief speaker was Dr. Usha Gajapathi Raju, Medical Nutrition
Therapist. Prof. P.Sheela, Vice-Principal, GITAM Institute of Management gave
the welcome address.
Dr.
Usha Gajapathi Raju spoke about how to maintain a balanced diet. She stressed
on the food habits of today’s generation and very precisely explained about the
cons of the food habits being followed by the youngsters. She told some facts
about junk food which astonished the students. She highlighted the great
hazards involved in consuming soft drinks. She also spoke about diabetes and
explained the difference between type-1 and type-2 diabetes. Dr. Usha Gajapathi
Raju offered to the students a healthy diet plan. All the students and faculty
members of GITAM Institute of Management and also those from other institutes
actively interacted with the chief speaker about their personal diet plans and
their daily routines.
CII_SESSION:HOW_TO_PLAN_YOUR_CAREER
CII-YI
organised a session on “How to plan your career” at GITAM Institute of
Management on 11th February, 2016. The chief speaker for the session
was Mr Aditya Kesanupalli, Business development manager, Go-Trust- Hyderabad.
Prof. P. Sheela, Vice-principal, GITAM Institute of Management delivered the welcome
address. Mr. Aditya Kesanupalli, an
accomplished Young India entrepreneur spoke about career options and learning
platforms. He briefly described Maslow’s hierarchy in which he highlighted ‘self-awareness’.
He suggested a number of tips for planning career. His presentation was very
inspiring and all the students actively participated by interacting throughout
the session. This session was organized by My Vikash Parek, Executive manager,
CII-YI for the students of MBA, GITAM Institute of Management.
MARTYRS’_DAY
Martyrs’
Day was observed on 30th January, 2016 to commemorate the martyrdom
of Gandhiji and other freedom fighters. All the faculty members and students of
GITAM Institute of Management observed a two-minute silence at 11a.m. as a token
of respect to the martyrs. Prof. K. Siva Rama Krishna, Dean and Principal,
Gitam Institute of Management paid floral tributes at the statute of Gandhiji on
the Charkha near the Centre for Gandhian Studies (CGS).
He
spoke of how Bapu’s non-violent approach inspired many and urged the students
to be well-versed with Gandhian movements and the significant contributions Gandhi
made to free the nation from the clutches of British rule. Prof. P. Sheela,
Vice-Principal, GITAM Institute of Management, Prof. G. Raghaviah and Dr. B. Nalini,
Assistant Director (CGS), also paid floral tributes at Gandhiji’s statue. All
the students and other faculty members also paid their respects to the Mahatma.
CAMBRIDGE-BUSINESS_ENGLISH_CERTIFICATE_PROGRAMME(BEC)
Cambridge
English - BEC is trusted and globally accepted by leading employers,
educational institutions and Governments worldwide. A seminar on Cambridge
English Exams and IELTS was organized in GITAM Institute of Management on 29th
January, 2016. The chief speakers for this seminar were Ms Vijayalakshmi
Thiyagarajan –Head- Examination services- South India, Mr. Karthik
Rajasekaran-Senior Manager Business Development (IELTS), Ms Jayashree
Natarajan-Manager Business Development (IELTS) and Mr. Gokula Krishnan.S - Manager
Business Development (Cambridge English Exams).
Ms.
Jayashree Natarajan gave a vibrant presentation on IELTS. IELTS (International
English Language Testing System) is jointly managed by British Council, IDP:
IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment. She made the session
very interactive. She said that IELTS is accepted by the finest colleges and
universities in the USA. IELTS scores are considered as proof of English
language proficiency by over 3000 higher education institutions and programs,
including the top 25 Universities and all Ivy League colleges in the USA. She
also highlighted the benefits of taking IELTS with the British Council.
Mr. Gokula Krishnan S. gave a presentation on
Cambridge English Exams. He said Cambridge English: BEC is a high quality
international English language exam which is developed by Cambridge English
Language Assessment- a not-for-profit department of the University of
Cambridge. He also said that the exam is designed to be fair to people of all
nationalities and linguistic backgrounds and is supported by dedicated research
programme. He also spoke about the levels of the exam and said the certificates
are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
– the internationally agreed standard for describing language ability. He
clearly brought out the advantages of taking the BEC exam which not only helps
to perfect L,S,R,W skills in the corporate world but also gains the respect of
the best MNCs the world over.
All the MBA First year students were present for this
seminar and also participated in the gathering by interacting with the
delegates. 
GUEST-LECTURES_ON_HR
On 25th January, 2016, Sri
M.V.N.Rao, Group HR Head, L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering, Mumbai, addressed
the MBA first year students on HR activities in L & T. On 27th
January, 2016, Prof. P. Subba Rao, Pro- Vice Chancellor, University of Papua
New Guinea, addressed the MBA students on the topic “HR Practices in the
University of Papua New Guinea”. Executives from IndusInd Bank also spoke to
the students about HR practices in their bank. These were highly beneficial
sessions for all the students who could listen to senior executives with rich
experience in the field and thus learn the practical application of HR
principles.
GANDHIRAMA-2016
Center
for Gandhian Studies, GITAM Institute of Management, GITAM University in
association with Andhra University hosted ‘GANDHIRAMA 2016’ and ‘SECOND ASIAN
PHILOSOPHY CONGRESS’. The two events were scheduled from 16th
January- 21st January, 2016.
The
inauguration of the Second International Convention on Gandhi ‘Gandhirama 2016’,
took place in Shivaji auditorium, GITAM University at 11 A.M on 16th
January, 2016. The chief guest for the inauguration was Sri M. Venkaiah Naidu,
Hon’ble Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development. In his
motivating address, he spoke of the various schemes of the central government
that were aimed at practical application of Gandhian ideas in national life. The
guests of honour were Dr. Kambhampati Haribabu, Member of Parliament, Visakhapatnam
and Dr. Y. Lakshmi Prasad, Member, Central Hindi Committee. Dr. M.V.V.S.Murthi,
President, GITAM and Member of Legislative Council, A.P., Prof. G.
Subrahmanyam, Vice-Chancellor, GITAM University, Prof. G.S.N. Raju, Vice
Chancellor, Andhra University and Prof. K. Siva Rama Krishna, Dean and
Principal, GITAM Institute of Management, also graced the occasion. Prof. K. Ramakrishna Rao, Hon’ble Chancellor,
GITAM University and the President of the convention delivered his highly
inspirational address “From Gandhirama to Gandhi Mandir in Visakhapatnam”. He outlined
his grand vision of a Gandhi Memorial atop Kailasagiri in Vizag and also
thanked the other collaborators for this event such as Indira Gandhi Center for
National Art, Mahatma Gandhi Museum and Library, Adi Kavi Nannaya University
and a host of other organizations.
On
16th January, 2016 there was a plenary session on “Religious
Fundamentalism, Political Extremism and Gandhi’s Nonviolence” in Shivaji
Auditorium, GITAM University. The chairperson for this plenary session was Sri
P.S. Rama Mohan Rao, Former Governor of Tamil Nadu & former DGP Andhra
Pradesh. The participants in this session were Sri. K. Padmanabaiah, Chairman,
Court of Governors, ASCI and Sri H.J Dora, Former Director General of Police, A.P.
The session was followed by paper presentations. A cultural program was held in
the evening in Andhra University which included a performance by renowned
Bharat Natyam dancer Ms. Gita Chandran and her team from New Delhi.
On
17th January, 2016 there was a plenary special lecture - “Gandhi left a Blue Print of a Sustainable
World Civilization through his Will” by Dr. T. Karunakaran, Former VC,
Chitrakoot & Gandhigram University and Former Director, Mahatma Gandhi
Institute for Rural Industrialisation. A plenary presentation on “Mahatma
Gandhi Mandir in Visakhapatnam” was given by Dr. Savita Singh, Former Director,
Gandhi Smriti. There was also a plenary panel discussion chaired by Prof.
Douglas Allen, University of Maine on “Gandhi’s Approach to his favourite
Bhagvad-Gita: Hermeneutical Disaster, Profoundly Insightful, or Invitation for
our Creative Reconstruction of its significance today”. Another plenary
presentation was on “Gandhi’s innovation in Ethics: Satyagraha as a Method of
Rational Proof” by Prof. J. Gray Cox, College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor,
Maine. There were paper presentations in GITAM Institute of Management which
was followed by a Cultural Program in the evening.
On
18th January, 2016 there was a plenary session in Mother Teresa
Auditorium, GITAM University on “Swachch Bharat & Smart Cities”. The
speakers in this session were Prof. S.S. Rama Rao Pappu, Miami University, Sri.
A. Annamalai, Director, National Gandhi Museum and Prof.G.Vedaparayana, Sri
Venkateswara University. This was followed by paper presentations held in GITAM
Institute of Management and a cultural program in the evening.
A
Khadi and Book Exhibition, Exhibition and sale of handloom and handicraft and
rural small scale industries products with artisans coming from all over the
country, a unique photo expo on the life of Gandhi, screening of movies and
documentaries on the life of Gandhi, display of priceless artefacts at the
Centre for Gandhian Studies Museum – were among the other highlights of the
mega event. A large number of students and academicians from all over India and
abroad attended the event. The Valedictory Session was held on 21st
January 2016 with Sri C. Rajendiran, renowned Thirukkural scholar and Principal
Commissioner of Customs, Vizag as the Chief Guest.
SECOND_ASIAN_PHILOSOPHY_CONGRESS
The
Second Asian Philosophy Congress was a three-day international conference (19th
Jan-21st Jan, 2016) hosted by the two premier universities, Andhra
University and GITAM University, with its theme of “Philosophy in Pursuit of
Peace”.
Philosophy
is a vibrant and dynamic exercise and helps to address multiple problems that
humanity faces today. There is an urgent need for holistic philosophy at the
present critical juncture of human history. Delivering the keynote address at
the inaugural of the Second Asian Philosophy Congress in GITAM University on
the theme ‘Philosophy in Pursuit of Peace’ on 19th January, 2016,
Dr. Karan Singh, Member of Parliament and Chancellor of Banaras Hindu
University underscored the importance of attaining permanent peace in the
world. He addressed the gathering on “Five Sutras: A Philosophy for the
future”.
Sri
Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Minister of Information & Public Relations, IT
& Communications, NRI Welfare & Empowerment, Government of AP said that
ethics and values must be taught as a subject in the curriculum to face the
social problems. IT Advisor, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. J.A. Choudary
observed that holistic education was needed to face future challenges. He
pointed out that the present young generation does not understand the
philosophy of technology and was unable to handle the stress during their work
period. He also said that the low-level jobs in the IT sector are slowly
digitised and the future IT jobs were in areas of artificial intelligence,
analytics and robotics.
Delivering
the presidential address on ’Perpetual Peace: A Philosopher’s Pipe Dream?’
Chancellor of GITAM University Padma Shri Prof. K. Rama Krishna Rao called on
philosophers to factor in the change in values and mindsets due to the
increasing importance of information technology in our lives. Enforcing peace
would only be temporary, perpetual peace can be achieved only when it comes
from inside, he said.
Sri. Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, Member,
Central Hindi Committee, Govt. of India and Dr. M.V.V.S. Murthi, President,
GITAM and Member of Legislative Council, Govt. of AP also addressed the
gathering.
On the same day, a plenary special lecture on
‘Dharma Rules, Virtues and Paradigmatic Individuals’ was given by Prof.S.S.Rama
Rao Pappu, Miami University. There was a plenary session for special papers.
The chairperson of the session was Prof. Douglas Allen, University of Maine.
During this session Mr. Anwar Alam, Zirvey University, Turkey, presented a
paper on “Gandhi, Islam and Muslim Politics in Pre-independence India:
Implications for Muslim Politics in post-independence India” and Mr. Marek
Hrubec, Czech Academy of Social Sciences, Prague, presented his paper on
“Social Recognition as a Precondition of Peace: The Asian & European
Comparative Perspectives.
On
the same day, there was a plenary panel discussion. Prof. Douglas Allen,
University of Maine spoke on “Creative Reformations of Gandhi’s Philosophy of
Peace & Their Value for Contemporary India & the World”; Prof. Karsten
Struhl, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York spoke
on “Buddhist Compassion & Righteous Anger” and Prof. Vinit Haksar,
Edinburgh University, spoke on “Philosophical Ideals of Perfection: Necessary
Evil, the Limits of Non-Violence and the Theory of Second Best”.
There
were several paper presentations in GITAM Institute of Management after the
plenary discussions followed by a concert in the evening by renowned singer
Ghazal Srinivas.
On
20th, January, 2016, the day started with plenary special papers. A
plenary session was addressed by Prof. Janak Pandey, Allahabad University, on
“Asian Indigenous Knowledge Systems for Solution for Manmade Societal
Problems”. There were paper presentations in GITAM Institute of Management
followed by a cultural program.
On
21st January, 2016 a Business session of the Asian Congress of
Philosophy was held in GITAM Institute of Management followed by a Valedictory
session. A large number of International delegates attended the three-day
Congress jointly organised by Andhra University Department of Philosophy and
Centre of Gandhian Studies GITAM University.
GOLDEN_JUBILEE_OF_SEIL
The
ABVP as a part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Students’ Experience in
Inter-State Living (SEIL) programme, which is designed to help students from
north-eastern States to understand the lifestyle and culture of other states,
organized a seminar cum gathering in GITAM Institute of Management, GITAM
University on 23rd January, 2016. Prof. K. Siva Rama Krishna, Dean
and Principal, GITAM Institute of Management addressed the gathering and warmly
welcomed all the delegates who were from north-eastern States.
Mr P.V.N Madhav, National Executive
Member BJYM spoke about the spirit of SEIL. He said that the purpose of SEIL
was to provide a platform to students of the ‘Seven Sister’ States to
familiarise themselves with the culture and lifestyle of other states.
Delegates from Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram
and Tripura actively participated in the gathering. The delegates interacted
with the students of GITAM Institute of Management and got to know about the
culture of Andhra Pradesh, food habits and festivals.
PRE-BUDGET_PANEL_DISCUSSION-2016
A
Pre-Budget Panel Discussion-2016 was organized by GITAM Institute of Management
on 26th February, 2016. The chief speaker of the session was Prof. B.
Ramakrishna Rao, Retd. Professor, Andhra University. The welcome address was
given by Dr. K. Manjusree Naidu, Associate Professor, GITAM Institute of
Management. She gave an introductory speech defining budget and also briefly
explained about the classification of Union Budget. Prof. K. Siva Rama Krishna,
Dean & Principal, GITAM Institute of Management addressed the gathering, giving
a brief note on the importance of budget.
Darshan
Jain and Ketha Rama Kanth of MBA First year gave a presentation on Employee’s
expectations from the budget, based on their survey. A presentation on Pre-Budget
Corporate expectations was given by B. Ganesh, MBA First year. Katta Kranti
Kumar of MBA First year presented a Pre-Budget survey with respect to the
common man.
The
Chief speaker of the session Prof. B. Rama Krishna Rao addressed the gathering
with regard to Pre-Budget Strategies. He spoke about fiscal consolidation and
budget- distributional justice. He highlighted agricultural crisis, industrial
crisis, exports crisis and also NPA of banks. He said that increase in growth
rate leads to decrease in current account deficit. He also spoke about the
petroleum and agricultural subsidies. He stressed on industrial growth rate
& FDI and also about corporate growth rate. The session was very
interactive. All the faculty members and students of GITAM Institute of
Management actively participated in this session. The vote of thanks was
proposed by T. Vijay Bhaskar, MBA First year.
ACCOLADES_FOR_BBM_STUDENT_MR._PRITAM_GANDHI
FACULTY_LECTURE_BY_PROF.-S.S.RAMA_RAO_PAPPU
Prof. SS Rama Rao Pappu, Miami University addressed the faculty members on the topic of “Teaching Skills” on 16th February, 2016. This proved to be a highly stimulating talk, with the renowned professor known for his long teaching stint, offering suggestion to faculty members to improve performance in the classroom. Among the host of tips that he gave, what stood out was the practice of making students a creative piece on what they had learnt during the class immediately after the lecture.

Dear friends,
We are glad to present the January-February
2016 issue of Yuvaan! At GITAM Institute
of Management, we started the New Year on a note of renewed vigour.
We had two memorable international
conventions GANDHIRAMA 2016 and the Second Asian Philosophy Congress, hosted
jointly by GITAM University and Andhra University. Our faculty, students and
support staff won accolades for their hard work. Our students also made us
proud with their excellent work as volunteers in the CII Partnership Summit and
the International Fleet Review, two mega global events hosted by Vizag in
January 2016.
We heartily congratulate our BBM 2012-15
batch student Mr. Pritam Gandhi for making us all proud with a high score of
99.6% in the CAT 2015 exams. A number of students also won laurels at various co-curricular,
extra-curricular and sports events as part of prestigious regional and national
meets. You can view this in our Achievements Section.
This issue also carries a number of

INTERACTION_WITH-U.S._AMBASSADOR
On
February 12th 2016, His Excellency Richard R. Verma, U.S Ambassador
to India visited GITAM University to have an interaction with the students on the
topic of Visakhapatnam as a smart city. In his inspiring address he spoke of
his middle class upbringing in India and credited his parents for his success,
highlighting that it was the importance they gave to education and hard work
that changed their lives. Many students from different Institutes of GITAM
University had the good fortune to ask him questions based on that day’s topic
of discussion. Few of the questions included –
- Definition of smart city from business perspective.
- How to reduce drug abuse in a smart city?
- Are we becoming too smart and then failing by over using technology?
- Involvement of women and children in creating a better environment to achieve our definition of smart city
- Is policy paralysis and lack of transparency responsible for creating a glitch in implementing the smart city concept?
The
Ambassador patiently responded to the queries and an interesting discussion
ensued. He was confident that India’s relationship with the U.S would prove to
