REPORT_ON_CII_SUMMIT:SUNRISE_STATE_ANDHRA_PRADESH

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the State Government of Andhra Pradesh presented the 22nd edition of the Partnership Summit from 10 - 12 January 2016 at APIIC Ground, Harbour Park, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Ms Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Minister for Commerce and Industry, was the Chair of the Summit and the State Government of Andhra Pradesh was the ‘Partner State’ for this edition of the prestigious initiative.

The Partnership Summit, which started in 1995, to mark the centenary of CII, has since become one of the most important international business events in the country. It aims to further partnerships and build ideologies based on shared dreams that bind societies together in this knowledge driven world. The Summit has established itself as an ideal ground for business networking and sharing of ideas to debate and deliberate, where corporates seek a collective view beyond bottom lines. The Partnership Summit regularly features Heads of States and Governments, Ministers, policy makers, CEOs, academicians and thought leaders from all over the world. The Summit traditionally sees over 1200 delegates with almost 40% attending from several countries including USA, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, Canada, France, Australia, South Africa, Italy, Qatar, China, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and UAE amongst others.

The highlights of the CII Partnership Summit 2016 were:
  1. Platform to showcase investment promotion policies and programmes in Andhra Pradesh.
  2. Building new partnerships and exploring national and international investment through high level networking and structured B2B Meetings.
  3. Unique platform providing a great opportunity to interact with Policy makers, investors, industry leaders and associations.

We students of GIM had an opportunity to meet top businessmen. We were inspired by their holistic thinking and leadership. We also learnt many management techniques from the organisers of the meeting. We got a chance to interact with fellow managers from other business schools which encouraged both competition and togetherness among us. Working with them was very exciting and enabled to greatly increase our flexibility to work in any environment with any person in the future.

Many businesspersons such as Mr. Anil Ambani, Mr. Murali Divis, Mr. Naushabh Forbes, Mr. Aadi Godrej, Mr. Y C Deveshwar, Mr. Satish Reddy, Mr. Krishna Reddy, Mr. Pratap Reddy, Mr. Mallikarjuna Rao, Mr. Amitabh Kanth were present. Many political leaders such as Union Minister Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, Chief Minister Mr. Chandrababu Naidu and others attended the meeting. I felt very excited and inspired seeing them on the stage and listening to them on the podium.

International Fleet Review which was conducted in February 2016 was a very good opportunity for the citizens of Visakhapatnam to experience a live telecast of the performance which was performed by the Indian Navy in front of the delegates from 50 countries. Basically, International Fleet Review can be defined as “the ceremonial and the stately inspection of naval warships by the President of India.”  It was a proud feeling for every Vizagite to have such a beautiful experience which every person from both Visakhapatnam and outside would cherish for a lifetime.
The International Fleet Review commenced on 4th February, 2016 and lasted till 8th February 2016. This four day event witnessed many occasions which were a moment of pride and honour for every citizen of India. The main objective of this ceremony was to enhance mutual trust and confidence with neighbouring navies by inviting their warships to participate in the event- “UNITED THROUGH OCEANS.”
The event was inaugurated on 4th February with laying of the wreath at the Victory at Sea Memorial by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu and paying homage to the martyrs of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. This was followed by the inauguration of Maritime Exhibition and IFR Village which was based on the theme of “Make in India” and aimed at showcasing innovation potential of  the youth of the country.  5th February marked the opening ceremony at INS Satavahana Stadium where Brand Ambassadors of Indian Navy Mr Akshay Kumar and Ms Kangana Ranaut joined the gathering.
The main part of the fleet review was conducted on 6th February in the morning hours by the “Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces”, the Honourable President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee. He reviewed the International fleet, a combination of Indian warships and the ships from navies across the world. Warships like INS Viraat, INS Vikramaditya, INS Samudrika, etc took part in this fleet and escalated the pride, respect and reputation of the country in front of various countries. The next day, i.e, 7th February, witnessed the city parade with more than 50 countries participating on RK beach and the salute was taken by the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. The participants who marched were the contingents of Indian Navy, Army, Air Force, State Police, NCC and troops of other countries like China, UK, USA etc.
As I reside opposite to Ramakrishna beach, I witnessed the complete show which was presented by the Indian Navy. There were a host of attractions like rocket launching, gun firing, tanks, explosions in the sea, magnificent fireworks by the warships, etc.  A crowd of more than 2.5 lakhs as estimated by the Mee-Seva Authorities watched the ceremony on the beach.  Complete decorum was maintained on the beach inspite of the huge crowd. The foreign delegates who visited the event were one of the points of attraction. I took a few selfies with soldiers from USA.  Indeed this will be one memorable event for every Vizagite !

INSIGNIFICANT_SIGNIFICANCE!

INSIGNIFICANT_SIGNIFICANCE!

You matter!
I promise you matter....
We are all insignificantly significant in this world...
But you are significantly significant in your world..
You are that link in the chain that links everything that matters to you...
Without You, I am sure everything will fall apart..
Never doubt the strength of the voice in you....
For it was the voice that has brought you this far... cause you matter!
I promise you matter...
You matter.. You matter to the soul within you..
You matter to the souls around you..
You may be in that place... where you feel insignificant...
But believe me you are not far from getting to this place.. Where you are more than significant... Cause you matter.

I promise you matter...

HAPPINESS_MEANS?

HAPPINESS_MEANS?

HAPPINESS-Everyone likes it all the time. But, what is happiness? Does this happiness lie in money, power or in something else? How do we get happiness and what makes us happy in this little world?

We the human beings, find a lot of ways to stay happy. For example a mother finds happiness in feeding her child, a father finds it by protecting his family whereas some politicians find happiness in appropriating public funds and getting richer day by day. Happiness can be obtained in two ways good and bad. One fills the heart with love and makes life beautiful whereas the other way gives only temporary happiness.

We the young and energetic youth of India find happiness mostly by using technology (Facebook,Whatsapp which have become like compulsory subjects for us). Even in the classrooms, we use mobile phones, we play games, is this happiness? While some of us find happiness in spending money for unnecessary things, some feel that alcohol consumption and smoking gives happiness and pleasure. If our loved ones know about this, can they stay happy? Can they carry a smile on their faces? Some of the students have lost their lives due to addictions. If we are one of them, can the hearts of our parents beat normally? Think once - No one is born perfect. You and I should learn good things from each other. Our friendship should be such that if we make mistakes, we should question each other. Real friendship never lies in doing bad things together but lies in making ourselves perfect. It is really great to listen to good things but they should also be implemented in our lives.

Happiness is sleeping on mother’s lap, hugging father after a long time, watching a baby walking, enjoying the movie with friends, fighting with sister for TV remote, seeing a kid’s smile playing with kids and satisfying the hunger of needy, doing naughty things in college, getting a smile from your special person. There is a small line separating good and bad. So, enjoy the college life in a good way. Take selfies, Upload them in Facebook, Keep Crazy status in whatsapp, put pics in Instagram. We won’t get this awesome time again. Chill out with our friends, enjoy life it is a onetime gift. But we should obtain happiness in the right way.

So let’s learn from each other and stay happy all the time.  Never insult anyone in your life. We do not have the right to take away happiness from anyone. Learn from each other for a better society and make this world beautiful place to live in.

DO_STARS_MATTER?

DO_STARS_MATTER?

I know, you must have thought for a moment that I was about to bore you by giving an insight into astrology… let me assure you that I have no intention to bore myself along the way…  anyway, by mentioning stars I mean stars given by film critics. So, what makes a movie worth watching? Glittery stars given by critics, or if you put it in another way, people just like us… it sure helps us in saving some money when we decide to not watch a movie based on stars. Then again our brains do full justice to encumber our opinions.
Most of the times we face a situation wherein the movie is appreciated by critics but we end up not liking it or to our surprise we might end up liking the movie that was not  even considered by the critics at the first place. We often observe that a movie at the end of the day is incarcerated to a particular citizenry. Sometimes it is because of the certification given by film board and sometimes the ratings given by the reviewer. There are movies that were highly overrated and on the flipside highly underrated.
For instance, if you see the movie ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ the ratings are lofty. Now, the movie was well received in the 90s because our mate ‘Oscar’ here is doing  a tremendous job in recognizing such movies but if you agree with me the plot might not excite the current generation as much. I don’t intend to criticize the back breaking work put in by numerous people because you never know when the movies taken recently might lose their charm in near future. There are movies that still live on like ‘Schindler’s list’, ‘The Godfather’ and many more..
As mentioned earlier, there are also movies that are underrated but have potential to change people’s mind. For example the movies like ‘28 days’ in which Sandra Bullock who never ceases to mesmerize us, once again spread her charm. This movie’s ratings are not that lofty but a simple story wherein the protagonist is forced to check into a rehab so that her life falls into place again, can be easily related to even in this decade.
Jean-Luc Godard once said, “A story should have beginning, middle and an end, but not necessarily in that order.” So, why should stars come in between?
Now, the “stars” mentioned here have another face to it. I am talking about the actors who give life to the characters created by the story teller. They become the face of a film. People many a time go watch a film because their favorite actor is working in that project. Just envisage a situation wherein you give in your 100% but at the end of the day you are not recognized. Sadly, this envision has become a reality in film industry. The same ‘stars’ are not recognized for their work. By going with example, we can see that this year’s Oscar nominations led its way towards controversy regarding lack of diversity. Many backlashed by putting their point of view through ‘#OscarsSoWhite” hash tag. It’s even more desolating when one person is appreciated and the other one is not though they worked on the same project. Something similar happened when actor Michael B. Jordan was not considered for a nomination whereas his co-star Sylvester Stallone was nominated in the Supporting Actor category for the movie ‘Creed’. Many other established people like actor Will Smith who can be seen in the movie ‘Concussion’, director Ryan Coogler who directed the movie ‘Creed’ fell prey to this controversy.

Coming to the other problem faced by the industry, the female actors are often not appreciated enough for their equally talented work in a particular movie. I am not talking about the awards or critical appreciation but the compensation aspect. There is a huge gap that has to be bridged. It is discrimination we as women are facing. It is anyway safe to say that there are changes happening but it has to be accelerated. Tolerance is the key destructor. Realizing and addressing the problem alone is not going to work anymore, we have to fight back because these “stars” definitely matter.
