National-Unity-Day-Sardar-Vallabhbhai-Patel’s-Birth-Anniversary-Celebrations
GITAM Institute of Management proudly
celebrated National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on 31st
October, 2015, the 140th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai
Patel. A number of events were organized at GITAM Institute of Management on
this occasion. The Chief Guest for the day was Sri Y. Vijaya Ram Narayan,
Project Manager, HSBC and Secretary, Seva Bharathi, RSS.
The Dean and Principal of GITAM
Institute of Management, Prof. K. Siva Rama Krishna, addressed the gathering
and enlightened the students about the greatness of Sardar Patel with
interesting episodes from his life. He spoke of how the man was exceptionally
courageous, even as a schoolboy, never hesitating to correct his teacher or
headmaster when they were wrong.
Prof. D. Harinarayana, Pro-Vice
Chancellor, GITAM University, spoke of the determination and will-power of
Sardar Patel and drew interesting comparisons between Pandit Nehru and Sardar
Patel, the two great leaders who despite differences of opinion worked together
as friends to build a great nation.
The Chief Guest Sri Y. Vijaya Ram
Narayan, an alumnus of GIM, elaborated on how Sardar Patel had merged over five
hundred princely states into the Indian Union using great courage and wisdom. He
wanted students to relate and employ the great social consciousness and
patriotism of Sardar Patel in their lives and give back to society by serving
the downtrodden.
Certificates and prizes were given away
to students who were the winners of the elocution, essay writing, sketching,
collage, basketball, relay race and other competitions held as part of the
National Unity Day celebrations. This was followed by the Unity Pledge which
was administered to all the faculty and students by Dr. K. Manjusree Naidu,
Chairperson, Student Affairs, GIM. She also proposed the vote of thanks. The
students and faculty of GIM, led by the Pro Vice-Chancellor and the Principal then
stood in formation representing the map of India with all the constituent
states.
