FOUNDATION DAY: BEST TEACHER AND SUPPORTING STAFF AWARDS
The 35th Foundation Day of GITAM
University was celebrated on 8th August, 2015 in a grand and solemn
manner. The GITAM Foundation Award 2015 was conferred upon Dr. A. Sivathanu
Pillai, distinguished missile scientist, former Chief Controller (R&D),
DRDO and founder BrahMos Aerospace. Dr. Pillai popularly known as the father of
the BrahMos Missile, delivered the GITAM
Foundation Endowment Lecture titled “The Nation Builders –The Youth of India”.
Giving a highly interesting presentation on the rich ancient heritage of India
especially in science and technology, Dr. Pillai delved into the milestones of
modern Indian science especially space research and the satellite, missile and
nuclear programmes. He offered insights into how science for humanity,
creativity and leadership could be the driving forces to harness the immense
potential of India’s youth population, the largest in the world.
On this occasion the GITAM Best Teacher and Best
Supporting Staff Awards for 2015 were also conferred. From GITAM Institute of
Management, Dr. K. Manjusree Naidu,
Head, Department of Entrepreneurship and Chairperson, Student Affairs and Dr. Nalini Bikkina, Assistant Director,
Centre for Gandhian Studies and Director, Centre for Research in Public Policy
received the Best Teacher Award. Dr. Manjusree, a gold medalist in Economics
from S.V. University, Tirupati has a number of pubications and paper
presentations to her credit. She is very popular for her teaching and actively
assists the administration in bringing out the best talents among students and
faculty. Dr. Nalini, an ICSSR fellow and former APPSC officer, had devoted
herself to interdisciplinary, outreach based, socially relevant teaching and
research, bringing laurels to the University.
The Best Supporting Staff Award was received by Mr. T. Sasidhar, Office Superintendent,
GITAM Institute of Management. With over three decades of service in GITAM, he
is known for his commitment to duty and amicable relations with faculty and
students.
