SPICMACAY -
Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth,
founded in 1977 by Padmi Shri Prof. Kiran Seth, is a youth movement dedicated
to fostering the priceless heritage of Indian cultural traditions. This popular
movement organizes about 6000 programmes based on Indian classical arts,
worldwide.
Students and
faculty of GITAM Institute of Management were enthralled and mesmerized by the
graceful traditional dance form of Gotipua from the state of Odisha. With a
rich history of several centuries, Gotipua is performed by young boys in honour
of Lord Krishna. Inspired by the tales of Radha and Krishna, this dance form is
known for its colourful costumes and its complex acrobatic yogic postures. The
team of six young boys between the ages of six to ten years performed episodes
from the life of Lord Krishna and astounded the spectators with their perfect
synchronization and harmony and their acrobatic stances. The team was well
supported with vocal and instrumental music by experienced artistes. The
performance invited a standing ovation from the audience.
