INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO BRANDIX INDIA APPAREL CITY, VISAKHAPTANAM
On
4th November, 2015, MBA first year students (section B and C) of
GITAM Institute of Management had an industrial visit to BRANDIX India apparel
city, Visakhapatnam. The vision of BIAC is to be the preferred global sourcing
hub for apparel. The values observed are integrity, teamwork, customer service,
learning and development, ownership and commitment. BIAC believes that speed
and efficiency are crucial for being competitive in the global apparel
industry. Brandix India Apparel City is the next generation of business
development that encompasses all aspects needed for any investor or partner to
be able to setup immediately without having any difficulty concerning
infrastructure, amenities and utilities. Located in one of the biggest apparel
hubs in the world BIAC offers close proximity to cost effective labour, raw
materials and resources that are needed to create our ‘Fiber-to-Store’ concept.
In addition, BIAC enjoys numerous financial benefits provided by the government
of India which are extended to each and every partner that invests and sets up
in BIAC.

(BIAC) addressed the students by giving a brief introduction about BIAC,
recognized as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). He explained the difference
between textile and apparel. He highlighted that BIAC is one of the few parks
which follows the concept of fibre to store. It has land extension of 1000
acres which includes 750 acres of land for manufacturing and 150 acres of land
for roads and drains. BIAC is a pioneer in making apparel. Almost 16500 people
are employed every year. The turnover of BIAC is Rs 1500 crores and it has the
largest FDI of Rs 850 crores. 60% of India’s apparel export is done by Brandix.
Students
were taken to the operational units where the knitting process of under
garments takes place. The process carried out in treating water in water
treatment plant and effluent treatment plant was explained well to the
students. The industrial experience was
very enriching for the students.
