About the programme:
Indian Institute of
Management, Ahmedabad conducted a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) from 8th
June, 2015 to 26th September, 2015.
This programme is a four-month, residential programme, specially
designed for faculty members of management education and training institutes. Forty two
management educators, including four from Nepal participated in this 37th
FDP. One third of the participants were women.
Majority of them were self-sponsored.
This programme focuses on upgrading the teaching and research skills of
management educators.
Two sets of courses were
offered in the 37th FDP: discipline-based courses and specialized
modules (which were being offered for the first time). Discipline courses were 15 in number and were
compulsory for all. The specialized module was organized from 3rd
September, 2015 to 19th September, 2015. In this
specialized module, three specializations were
offered and participants could opt for only
one of the three
specializations. The three areas were Specialized
module in Marketing, Specialized module in Finance and Accounting, and
Specialized module in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management. Each specialization has its own
objectives.
Marketing specialization objectives:

Developing an understanding of selected methodology used for
Marketing Research
·
Review of newer areas of
academic research in the discipline
·
Develop an appreciation
about rapidly growing domain in Marketing Practice
Finance and Accounting specialization objectives:

Equip participants with the
knowledge needed to design and offer specialized electives in Finance and
Accounting
·
Provide an exposure to
current research in this field and help participants to develop interesting
research proposals in these areas.
Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management specialization
Objectives:
·
To
provide a space for faculty in OB to discuss innovations in teaching and
research in OB
·
To read contemporary
research, theories, and discuss approaches to teaching/introducing some of
these topics in the classroom at the MBA level
Case based teaching:
The teaching methodology
was fully case based. Cases and
supplementary readings/text book(s) were distributed to the participants prior
to the class. Participants need to read
the cases and supplements before the class and participate in the classroom
discussion. For this process the class
members were divided into study groups.
Each group had 6 to 7 members.
The group members were required to read and discuss the case before
coming to the class and submit the assignments if assigned.
Case writing:
This was one of the key
activities in the programme.
Participants had to form four member groups voluntarily. The group members had to identify the occurrence
to develop a case. They frequently
visited the field and gathered information about the organization and
occurrence. Based on the primary and
secondary information, group members had to develop a case. Before that the group members had to specify
the target group/class for the case.
Learning:
Every participant
had to involve in Individual presentations, group presentations, case writing,
preparation of research intent and teaching notes for the case. This programme provided a platform to the participants
on how to deal with and discuss a case study in the class room, how to assign a
task (situation based) to the students and non-lecture methods.
Industrial visit:
One industrial visit was
organized during the programme. The
field visit to Amul (Anand Milk Union
Limited) was a real time experience.
Participants witnessed the process of collection of milk from the
farmers, how the collected milk was delivered to the manufacturing unit and how
the milk was processed and packed.
