NSS_WORLD_HEART_DAY_RALLY
On the occasion of
World Heart Day on 29th September, 2016, NSS students of GITAM
Institute of Management took out an awareness rally on the campus. The rally
was very helpful in raising awareness about the high rate of heart diseases
especially in India and the ways and means to prevent the same.
World Heart Day was
founded in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke
are the world’s leading causes of death, claiming 17.3 million lives each
year. Each year’s celebrations have a different theme, reflecting key
issues and topics relating to heart health. This year the World Heart Day theme
is creating heart-healthy
environments. The places in which we live, work and play should not
increase our risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). We may not be able to
control many factors but we can definitely make heart-healthy choices in the
places where we live, work and play.
In relation to
the 2016 theme, students carried banners and placards with useful information,
tips and slogans throughout the campus, delivering short speeches and
performing skits. A large number of students and faculty participated in the
initiative. The rally was actively led by Prof. P. Sheela, Principal, GITAM
Institute of Management and organized by Dr. Shaikh Shamshuddin, NSS
Co-ordinator, GITAM Institute of Management.
NSS GITAM University Co-ordinator Prof. Veerendra Swamy was also present
and encouraged the students.
