1.      THE NAME ITSELF

Coming as a tradition from the past many years, GITAM Excellence Meet has proved its name a big head turner in the city of Vizag and is on a verge to cross the boundaries. Started as the Management Excellence Meet (MEM) it has witnessed many years of intense work, went through a change that is brought in by different batches of the students and is currently one of Vizag’s biggest shows. So, it is all like, GEM here, GEM there, come December, GEM is everywhere.

2.      THEMES

It is also one of the core principles that GEM is based upon a theme, a theme which reflects the current happenings of the society. These themes are collected from the student pool, scrutinized and then selected based upon the intent it has in it. The last year’s theme was “Nurture Nature” which was the immediate result of the disastrous and the monstrous Hudhud cyclone. The present theme, syncopating the pace of the development of the smart cities and their attributes, evolved as “Smarter than smart”.

3.      EVENTS

The events have proven to be the brownie point of the fest, for their ability to involve a student who comes from any background. Should he be from Architecture, Technology, Law, Literature, Sciences or any field as such, he will find an event in which he can race against a pride of contestants. It is a viewer’s delight when their childhood’s best gaming scene is being lived by the professional pro gamers from different parts of the country, with their teams, in the gaming arena conducted during the fest. A live simulation of the Parliament, with opposition and ruling parties and checking the ability of the participants to counter the counters of the competitors, it’s a real fun to witness it. If we keep mentioning, the list keeps growing.

4.      STUDENTS

GITAM Institute of Management is a house producing students from different departments like MBA, MHRM, BBA + CIMA, BCOM +ACCA, BBA Analytics and such different courses. These are just the in house students, who take part in the activities of the organization. The main deal is to watch people who flood in from the outside. An estimated Twenty thousand footfall is seen every year, and is growing.

5.       FUNCTIONS

The students of GIM, abiding with the principles of management, form themselves into different teams representing different core functions like the Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and the Operations. A clear cut objective sheet is prepared and the management action starts. It’s all seen within the college. It’s all camouflaged, no one can know what’s happening internally, but everyone will know what is happening. These functions help division of labor hence the division of work and the result is phenomenal. Ever growing efforts, ever growing results.

6.      CELEBRITIES

Glitter and glamour is added towards the end, which is one of the best parts of GEM, and there is the involvement of Celebrities from the Telugu Film Industry. To catch the live nerve of the students, to entertain them, to get them enthralled, GEM has it all from Veteran actors to trending actors to comedians to singers to the people who represent the small screen; many were part of GEM’s activities.

7.      GPL

Acronym for GEM Premier League, this is a one of a kind cricket tournament, inter collegiate, getting bigger and better, every year. Close to Forty teams participated in the event previous one and this time, it is expected to grow. The sport is such a great to watch while some of the best players representing different playing fields of India are present.

8.      MANAGEMENT

What is a management fest, without management being imparted in the doing? Be it the division of work, creation of a simulation ground with proper organizational structure. A CEO, Department heads under him, associates working under them and all of them communicating in a matrix, finally communicating to the administration authorities of the college. So, it is a show run and done by the students. They get guidance from the expert faculty they have. An office, with a secretary, official bill board, everything’s in the house. Everyone who participates in it will get hands on experience of what they learn in the classrooms.

9.      CULTURAL NIGHT

Undoubtedly, the enigma is all saved for this part. This time will make a viewer witness some of the best dancers, singing, skits, music and other such talents. Music from the age old Carnatic to the present day Electronic hype of Dubstep, one can experience it here. The show gets better every year with a hint of innovation added to it. The lasers seeping into the air, ground shaking bass, and an open auditorium filled with some two thousand spectators, what’s amazing than that.

10.  MEMORIES

If asked, anyone, even a student who is from the batches of 90s, he would definitely take the collected memories of MEM/ GEM into action and he would definitely go lala about them. The impounding effect the event has on the student is phenomenal and tremendous, say the students of GIM .
