GENDER_CHAMPIONS

Vision
and objective of Gender Champion initiative is to create responsible leaders
who will fabricate an environment within schools, colleges, academic
institutions where girls are treated with dignity and respect. Their role is to
monitor progress towards gender justice. The aim is to make boys and girls
gender sensitive and create positive social norms that value the girls and
their rights.
To
be a part of Gender Champions, the person should be above 16 years of age,
enrolled in and regularly attending school or college, must have minimum of 50%
marks or equivalent grade in annual examination, excellent oral, written and
presentation skills, should demonstrate leadership qualities and should have
good understanding of the socio- cultural issues and prevailing gender norms
and practices.
An
application is distributed among the students asking their educational
qualifications and skills known to them and finally focusing on one question
‘why do you want to become a Gender Champion?’
The
students will be selected by the Head of the Institution or a Nodal teacher
with the student representatives as Gender Champions. The students will be
identified as promoters of gender equality through badges.
The
gender champions along with the nodal teacher will chalk out an annual activity
calendar that includes all activities that try and promote gender equality in
their respective classes and college as a whole all around the year.
At
the end of each quarter the gender champions prepare reports on the activities
implemented. On the basis of the reports submitted each gender champion will be
assessed to measure their performance. Finally the gender champions will be
awarded with a certificate of appreciation from the Head of the Institution for
their efforts to promote equality.
