Panel discussion on Preventive Vigilance as a Tool
of Good Governance
On
the occasion of Vigilance Awareness Week – 2015, GITAM Institute of Management
in association with Vigilance Departments of Visakhapatnam Port Trust and
Dredging Corporation of India organized a panel discussion on the topic
“Preventive Vigilance as a Tool of Good Governance”, on the 28th of
October, 2015.
The
welcome address was delivered by Prof. P. Sheela, Vice-Principal, GITAM
Institute of Management, wherein she
stressed on the role of youth in combating corruption. In the opening remarks, Shri Mujib Pasha
Sheikh, ITS, Chief Vigilance Officer, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, spoke of the
different types of corruption and the complexity of the phenomenon in Indian
society today. The moderator Mr. Leben Johnson, MBA Programme Co-ordinator,
GITAM Institute of Management , in his
opening remarks defined the concept of vigilance and highlighted corruption in
the banking and financial sectors.
The
panelists for the panel discussion were – Cdr. Sanjeev Sharma, Indian Navy,
Retd., Shri. D. Ramana Murthy, Deputy FA & CAO, Visakhapatnam Port Trust
and Shri C.S.Sekhar, Advocate, District Court, Visakhapatnam. They discussed a
wide range of topics right from Chanakya’s concept of good governance and his
views on corruption to defining corruption free governance as PETAL –
Participation, Empowerment, Transparency, Accountability and Legal Framework.
After the moderator summed up the discussion, the Vote of Thanks was delivered
by Dr. SVS Sudhakar, Deputy CVO, Visakhapatnam Port Trust.
The
event saw good response from students and faculty of GITAM Institute of
Management and employees of Visakhapatnam Port Trust and Dredging Corporation
of India.
