TEACHER’S-DAY
Nelson
Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change
the world.” The teacher imparts education and knowledge and hence the role of
the teacher is very important, both in moulding the present and developing the
future of the student.
Every
successful human being on this Earth stands on his feet because of a key
person, a teacher. A teacher is like the root for an individual, and just as
without a root, a plant cannot gain water, nutrients and other minerals, in the
same way, without a teacher, a child cannot gain manners, knowledge and hence
cannot prosper in his life. Teachers serve the society by instructing and
guiding countless students through different stages of their life and growth.
They prepare them to tackle the present world and face the future.
In
a child’s life, teacher plays different roles at different stages of growth.
The first teacher which the child meets is his mother who nurtures him and
provides basic knowledge under her guidance. It is the mother who teaches a
child to speak his first word, make him sit and stand, and teaches him the
basic manners. In the childhood, yet apart from their mother, children spend
the maximum time with the teachers in school. School is called the second home
and teachers are their second mothers. At this age of their lives, children are
like clay waiting to be moulded with arts and skills. They are waiting to soak
up every experience, every word, and every skill that they come across.
Teachers carry a major responsibility of moulding the children and shaping the
thoughts and values of children.
In
early life, when a student is exposed to the open world and he meets different
people apart from his family, he hopes to find a teacher who acts as a friend
and at the same time helps him to develop his path and lead his way. As student
grows, teachers play an important role in shaping the student’s career and
future. The seeds are sown when the minds are young. It is the teacher who
should help the seeds to grow by sprinkling valuable knowledge and information.
Teachers play an important role during this period by providing knowledge to
the students in the way they understand by becoming their friends rather than
authoritative figures.
The
teacher has the power of guiding a youth to achieve his goals and leading the
youth away from the danger. They have powers of making or breaking the future
of youth in their hands. The students act as a clay and the teachers act as
potters who shape their destiny.
Because
of various efforts and countless duties and responsibilities through which a
teacher serves the society, we the students celebrate 5th September
as Teacher’s day, to express gratitude and appreciate the hard work of every
teacher who provides endless services to the children across the nation.
Teacher’s Day in India is observed on the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli
Radhakrishnan that falls on the 5th of September. This great son of
India was initially a Teacher and later he became the Vice-President of India.
On the death of Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of the Indian Republic,
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was elected as the 2nd President of
India.
This
day is celebrated throughout the country in schools and colleges. Students pay
respect to their teachers and show their love in the form of various gifts.
They also organize various cultural events.
As a student of Gitam Institute of Management,
I along with my friends and classmates, celebrated the teacher’s day like
everyone did throughout the nation. On this occasion, all the students were
supposed to get ready in ethnic wear. We decorated the class and the
blackboard, got gifts and were ready with lots of roses. We had a small session where the students
shared their feelings towards the teachers. Later on, a lovely cake was cut by
all our teachers and we gave them gifts and flowers. We took pictures with them
and I was glad to take a selfie with my favourite teacher and role-model Dr.
Rositta Joseph.
Dr.
A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said, “Creativity is the key to success in the future, and
Primary Education is where teachers can bring creativity in children at that
level.” Teachers inspire us to proceed forward; they build our characteristics
and prepare us to withstand the obstacles in our life. They impart immense
knowledge and wisdom in our lives. On this day on behalf of everyone, I pay
respect to all the teachers of GITAM and all around the world saying- “We are
grateful to you dear teachers for all you do for us.”
