LAUNCH OF CIVIL SERVICES PREPARATORY PROGRAMME
A career in the Civil Services gives one
the opportunity to change the lives of millions for the better. Indeed, a large
part of the credit for holding together the secular, socialist, demicratic
structure of the nation goes to the civil servants of India. And so, on the 6th
of October, 2015, Centre for Gandhian Studies, GITAM Institute of Management
achieved a new milestone by addressing the felt need of the region and
launching a CIVIL SERVICES PREPARATORY PROGRAMME to benefit students across all
disciplines from GITAM University and outside. At the outset, Dean and Principal, Prof.K.Siva Rama
Krishna spoke of the significance of the programme to create a young generation
of able civil servants from the region. Prof.
G. Subrahmanyam, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor gave an overview of how GITAM
University offered innovative programmes that catered to the needs of the
community at large. Prof. K. Ramakrishna Rao, Hon’ble Chancellor spoke of the
future as inter-disciplinary and stressed upon the need to build a young
generation of dedicated civil servants imbued with Gandhian ideals. Prof.M.Gangadhara
Rao, Hon’ble Vice-President, GITAM spoke of practical suggestions to make the
programme more effective.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr.
Amit Garg, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam city. A brilliant
academician and dynamic officer who has held coveted and challenging positions
across the country , he is the recipient of the Indian Police Medal 2011. Mr
Garg inspired and captivated the students with his passion for serving the
nation. He urged the students to work hard and be passionate about their
calling in order to crack the Civil Services exam. He also recalled the immense
satisfaction that his job gave him, especially when he was able to help those
in need. He spoke of the changing and highly interesting role of the Indian
Civil Servant in the present times and the immense opportunities the service
offered to change the face of the nation.
Dr.B.Nalini, Assistant Director, Centre for Gandhian
Studies proposed the Vote of Thanks. The programme was conducted by Dr. Rositta
Joseph, Assistant Professor in English.
