GITAM_EXCELLENCE_MEET_2016

The 18th GITAM Excellence Meet (GEM) organized by GITAM Institute of Management, GITAM University was inaugurated on 9th December, 2016. This two day youth fest offers an exceptional platform for students from across the region to exhibit and hone their diverse talents. The theme for GEM-2016 was “Celebrating Togetherness”, which focuses on the significance of overcoming barriers and uniting the youth for national and global progress. 


The inaugural function was graced by Prof. M.S.Prasada Rao, Vice-Chancellor, GITAM University Prof. K. Siva Rama Krishna, Pro-Vic-Chancellor, GITAM University, Prof.M.Potharaju, Registrar, GITAM University and presided over by Prof. P.Sheela, Principal, GITAM Institute of Management.  A galaxy of eminent personalities attended the inaugural function. The Chief Guest was Sri N.T.Arun Kumar, MD and Board Member, UBS India. The Guests of Honour were – Sri J.A. Chowdhary, IT Adviser to Government of AP, Sri Tirumala Rao Chamalla, President, APEITA, Sri Uday Odedra, MD and Head of Technology, UBS, India, Sri Suresh Kothari, MD and Head of Reporting and Analytics, UBS India, Mr. Vishal Agarwal, Head, Analytics, Cognizant, Mr. V.Laxmikanth, MD, Broadridge and Mr. Ravichandra Kolluru, Location Head, Tech Mahindra.

The events for undergraduate students were – Make Your Product, a marketing competition, The VC in you – a finance planning event, Speak Your Mind – a debate contest, Brainomania – a quiz. There were also Spot events like Paintball, Face Painting and LAN (Computer) Gaming. Cultural competitions for the categories of Group Dance, Solo Dance, Singing and Step-Up Dance were also held. A number of stalls were put up selling eatables, craft items, accessories as also displaying cars and bikes. Students had a great time going around the stalls and participating in the various events. Around 5000 students and visitors from various institutions visited the GEM event on the first day.

The evening saw a mega cultural show with a plethora of songs, dances, skits and orchestra and band performances by students from various schools and colleges, GITAM university and also famous professional groups. The audience had a gala time. The culturals were attended by an energetic crowd. 
The second day was dedicated to events for the junior category, that is, intermediate students. These included: Make your Product – a competition showcasing the creativity of students in making unique products and advertising them; GITAM’s Got Talent – an exciting one minute event giving students an opportunity to exhibit their talents in a minute; Mission Impossible – a thrilling game challenging students to solve mind boggling clues and solve mysteries; Buzz Word – a spelling bee cum vocabulary contest which tested and enriched language skills. Cultural competitions for the categories of Group Dance, Solo Dance, Singing and Step-Up Dance were also held. A number of stalls were put up selling eatables, craft items, accessories as also displaying cars and bikes. Students had a great time going around the stalls and participating in the various events. Around 5000 students and visitors from various institutions visited the GEM event on the second day.

GITAM Institute of Management also hosted an Entrepreneurship Workshop which provided budding entrepreneurs a chance to interact with experts about their business plans. A Photography Workshop cum competition was also organized which offered training from top notch photography experts. 

The evening saw a mega cultural show with a plethora of songs, dances, skits and orchestra and band performances. Prizes were also given away to the winners of the inter-collegiate cricket (Willow Wickets) and badminton (Rocket Racket) tournaments organized as part of GEM-2016. A large number of teams from schools and colleges across the region participated in these events in the senior and junior categories. A lucky draw was also held and winners carried away high-end mobiles, watches and refrigerators as prizes.  

GEM-2016 came concluded with the formal Valedictory Function. Mr. R.Girish Chandra, CEO, GEM 2016 welcomed the gathering. This was followed by addresses by the Distinguished Guest, Prof. K. Siva Rama Krishna, Pro Vice Chancellor, GITAM University and Prof. P. Sheela, Principal, GITAM Institute of Management. The Chief Guest Sri Yarlagadda Ratna Kumar, CMD, Y Screens, Vijayawada appreciated the students of GIM for their creativity, enthusiasm and dedication while sharing tips for professional success. The Guest of Honour, Sri Marupeddi Siddharth, CEO, StartAP, Vijayawada and the Special Guest Sri Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, Cine Actor also addressed and encouraged the youngsters, evoking a lot of applause and excitement. After prizes were distributed to all the winners, Dr. K. Manjusree Naidu, Chief Mentor, GEM 2016 proposed the Vote of Thanks.
